CNY Canine Academy is proud to partner with the Oswego County SPCA to support foster dogs as they move from foster care to forever homes. Through this partnership, each dog is thoughtfully assessed by our canine behaviorist to better understand their personality, preferences, and individual needs. Dogs then receive guided socialization and behavior support designed to build confidence, reduce stress, and encourage healthy, positive interactions with people and other dogs.

This work helps ensure that when a dog meets their future family, they are not just ready to be adopted, but ready to belong. Adopters gain a clearer picture of who their dog truly is, allowing for stronger matches, smoother transitions, and more successful long-term outcomes. Together, we help dogs take that important step from foster to forever, setting both dogs and families up for a lifetime of trust, stability, and love.

Currently Adoptable Dogs

Named after the legend, the icon, the man who wants to go fast, Ricky Bobby is a 5-year-old hound who just took his freedom ride out of the shelter and is ready to race his way into someone’s heart.

Ricky Bobby is a certified hound in every sense of the word. He will sing you the song of his people. He will give you the daily report. He will alert you to snacks, squirrels, vibes, and general nonsense. When it’s time to move? Ricky Bobby lives that “I wanna go fast” lifestyle.

But don’t let the commentary fool you — once he feels safe, Ricky Bobby is a snuggler who enjoys affection and connection. He was extremely stressed in the shelter, so now that he’s decompressing in foster care, we’re letting him show us who he really is when life slows down just a little.

Ricky Bobby is heartworm negative and will be tested for Lyme — because “DON’T YOU PUT THAT EVIL ON ME.” His assessments are ongoing, and updates will keep coming as he settles in.

Important notes from Ricky himself:

• Prefers older, respectful kids who won’t “come at him like a spider monkey.”

• Needs patience, structure, and people who understand decompression

• With the right home, he’s ready to SHAKE. AND. BAKE.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be on Team Ricky Bobby?

Because remember…If you ain’t first, you’re last. (And yes. We will be quoting this movie forever.)

Monte is a 12-week-old Great Pyrenees mix with stunning blue eyes, a soft heart, and a very special way of experiencing the world. Monte is deaf, and because of that, he’s looking for a patient, committed family who either has experience with large breeds or deaf dogs — or who is truly willing to invest time, training, and consistency to meet his needs.

Monte is expected to grow into a big boy (around 85–90 pounds), and he is not an apartment dog. He will thrive in a home that understands large-breed puppies, sets clear boundaries, and provides structure as he grows.

Because Monte can’t hear, he is very much a Velcro dog. He prefers to be touching his people — especially when sleeping — so he knows where you are and feels safe. This isn’t anxiety; it’s how he navigates the world.

What we know about Monte so far:

• Good with other dogs

• Good with dog-savvy cats who set firm boundaries

• Good with kids in homes that understand large-breed puppies

• Loves being with his people above all else

Monte is still a baby and is working on house training, crate training, and leash skills. With visual cues, positive reinforcement, and consistent guidance, he has all the potential to grow into an incredible companion.

Important Adoption Information and Next Steps

All animals adopted through the Oswego County SPCA (OCAWL) are:

  • Spayed or neutered

  • Up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations

  • Microchipped prior to adoption

  • Heartworm tested (if age-appropriate).

All animals are cared for in loving foster homes — they are not housed in a shelter environment. The Oswego County SPCA review all applications thoroughly to ensure the best match for both animal and adopter. The adoption fees help cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and rescue operations so we can continue saving animals throughout Central New York.

To apply to adopt, please visit https://www.oswegocountyspca.org/adoption-application.html and complete our adoption application.

After Submitting Your Application

Please make sure you have notified your veterinarian that The Oswego County SPCA will be calling and that it is okay to speak with them. If you do not currently have a vet, please determine which one you will be using and set up care in advance so they can confirm your new pet will receive medical attention when needed.

For Pets Already in the Home

Because the number of homeless animals in our area is so large, The Oswego County SPCA adopt only to homes where current pets are spayed or neutered, with documented medical exceptions. They also require that all resident pets be up to date on their vaccinations to help ensure that everyone — both new and existing family members — stays healthy and safe.

Keep in Mind

The Oswego County SPCA are 100 percent foster-based and 100 percent volunteer-operated, from the top down. The team works hard to get animals into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Please be patient with them — but if you do not hear back within a few days, feel free to message them on their Facebook page to confirm your application went through.

About the Oswego County SPCA (OCAWL)

Founded in 1972 as the Oswego County Animal Welfare League, the Oswego County SPCA (OCAWL) is a 100% volunteer-run, donation-based, and foster-based nonprofit dedicated to providing shelter, medical care, and compassion to animals in crisis. Rebranded in 2012 as the official SPCA chapter for Oswego County, we receive no funding from the ASPCA, county, or state and rely entirely on our volunteers, fosters, and community support. Since expanding our foster network during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have rescued and rehomed more than 1,500 animals while assisting law enforcement with cruelty and neglect cases. We also operate a thrift store, pet food pantry, and community meet-and-greet space that sustain our mission and support local families—each life saved a testament to our promise of moving animals From Foster to Forever.
